Jonny Fewster, whose little girl Ava was cared for on our unit earlier this year has come up with rather brilliant way of fundraising for us for the whole of June! Jonny, who runs Surface Smart North East, an exterior cleaning company is very kindly donating 10% of his income for June to us.
Jonny was inspired to give back when Ava who was born at 37 weeks became poorly and needed to be cared for by our team. After a normal delivery, Jonny, and Ava’s mum Laura noticed she had changed colour and she was quickly rushed to the Neonatal Unit. At first Ava required CPAP, however, after taking another turn for the worse she was taken to Intensive Care while our teams worked tirelessly to work out why she was so poorly. Over the course of the next five days she was slowly weaned off all the medications and breathing machines and taken out of Intensive Care.
Mum Laura, said: “The team of doctors and nurses were absolutely amazing and as a family we could never thank them enough. When we knew Ava was going to the Neonatal Unit, I was so scared, and then when they told us she was going to Intensive Care I felt helpless. The nurses didn’t just care for Ava like a patient, they cared for her as if she was their own and they genuinely cared about her. We trusted them 100% and they supported us all as a family. They made the most daunting, scariest time of our lives comforting with their compassion. After 8 days Ava came home, we owe the whole team everything – they saved her life.”
We are so very touched by Jonny’s generosity, and hard work – his job doesn’t look easy! We’re right behind him every step of the way.
