Last weekend we held our first ever ‘Cycle Off’ event with the team at Stockton Marks & Spencer. We were selected as the store’s Charity Of The Year back in April after one of its employees Daniel Carr nominated us. Daniel’s daughter Isabelle was cared for on our Unit two years ago and since then he’s wanted to give back. Coincidentally it turns out a few more of the staff have had babies on our Unit, so we were a perfect fit.
We caught up with Daniel and Store Manager Katie and to tie in with Stockton Borough Council’s Cycle Week they proposed we did a cycling event. Our answer was immediately yes!
We decided to ride one mile for each baby our Unit had cared for in the last 12 months and raise a pound for each of them which meant we needed to cycle 411 miles and raise £411! It was a big challenge but one we were up for.
We were very kindly loaned two static bikes from Total Fitness in Stockton and we got started on getting our teams sorted.
The team at Marks and Spencer kicked off the pedal power on the Thursday and we came in-store on the Saturday with our team which included members of Neoangels, Staff Nurses, Ward Clerks, friends and family and parents and grandparents who had little ones on our Unit.
We were over the moon to not only hit our 411 mile target but we also raised an amazing £518.35!! Thank you to everyone who hopped on the bikes, came down to cheer us on and those who donated – you’re all wonderful!
